State police say one woman is dead and three others were hospitalized following a motor vehicle accident on the thruway in the Town of Bethlehem this morning.
Police said they received a report of a rollover accident with ejection on Wednesday, March 19, at approximately 8:30 a.m., traveling northbound on I-87. Troopers and emergency personnel arrived to find three of the four occupants ejected from a 2000 GMC sport utility vehicle.
All 4 victims were transported by ambulance to Albany Medical Center. There, Margaret Seyfarth, 64, of Kingston, NY, a rear seat passenger, was pronounced dead.
The driver, 65-year-old Paul W. Seyfarth, of Kingston NY, remains hospitalized and is listed in critical condition. Two other passengers, Susan L. Cottington, 60, and Doris Seyfarth, 86, also of Kingston, are being treated at Albany Medical Center.
Preliminary investigation shows the three ejected from the vehicle were not wearing seatbelts. Doris Seyfarth, the only occupant wearing a seatbelt, sustained the least amount of injuries.
State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit and Bureau of Criminal Investigation responded to the scene. No other vehicles were involved in the crash. At this time no charges have been filed and the investigation is ongoing.
