One of my favorite Valentine’s Day treats is a Strawberry Rose Garden. It’s great for classroom parties or an after-school surprise.
When serving this treat at school, I often bring a garden of flowers with one stemmed stick for each child and extra fruit so that they can continue to skewer more themselves. Since it’s not uncommon for things to hit the floor, and there’s always a “NO five-second rule” at school, extra garden skewers on the side are always a good idea, too.
Strawberry Rose Buds
Fresh strawberries
Cookie/candy craft sticks
Floral tape
Green construction paper
Green styrofoam block
Marker
Rinse the strawberries and slice off the greens so that you have a flat edge to the strawberry.
Cut leaves with a stem out of the construction paper.
Wrap the stem with the floral tap and stop about _ of the way up the stem to insert the leaf and continue wrapping, leaving a portion of the stick exposed for the strawberry.
Top the stick with the strawberry and place it into the foam base.
Choco-licious Dip
1/2 cup white chocolate or dark chocolate morsels
4 ounces light whipped topping, frozen
Fresh strawberries
Wash and hull the strawberries. Set aside.
Thaw the whipped topping completely. Melt the chocolate in a glass dish for one minute. Let the chocolate set for a minute so it’s not scalding hot when added into the whipped topping. Fold the melted chocolate and whipped topping together. If you use the dark chocolate add 1/8 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Serve chilled.
Lemony-licious Dip
2 ounces light whipped topping
1/3 cup low fat vanilla yogurt
1 tablespoon lemonade concentrate, frozen
1/4 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Fold the whipped topping, vanilla yogurt, lemonade concentrate and vanilla together. Serve chilled.
