A public information session on the Slingerlands Fire District’s plans to expand its firehouse has been pushed back.
The new date for the meeting is Nov. 16. The district also plans to hold a public referendum on bonding money for the project on Dec. 13, which would coincide with the annual elections for the fire district.
Officials had previously hoped to hold the referendum in September.
The department has long investigated expanding its aging facilities on New Scotland Road. There’s not enough room for storage and operations, officials say, and the project would also include a ventilation system for the vehicle bays where exhaust fumes now pool when fire engines are started up.
A study has put the project’s cost at $1.8 million, but factoring in designs costs in other expenses could push the figure higher. The district plans to pay for some of the project out of its building improvement fund but there isn’t nearly enough there to pay for it outright. A bond amount has not yet been settled on.
The department could still hit a spring groundbreaking despite the delay.
