State Police are investigating a three car personal injury accident on the thruway that occurred Saturday, Aug. 13, in the Town of Rotterdam.
At about 9:08 a.m., State Police said it received a report of a vehicle going east in the westbound lanes. At 9:11 a.m., reports were received of a head-on collision just west of Exit 26, said police. An eastbound sedan driven by Kelvin Wells, 29, of Schenectady, allegedly struck a westbound SUV head-on, according to police. Then a westbound pickup truck struck the rear of the SUV.
Pattersonville Fire Department and Mohawk Ambulance responded to the scene and transported five occupants from the three vehicles to Ellis Hospital for non-life threatening injuries, said police.
Wells was transported to the hospital and charged with vehicular assault in the second degree, a Class E felony, the misdemeanor charge of DWI, the violation charge of unlawful possession of marijuana and several traffic offenses. He was arraigned in Rotterdam Town Court and committed to the Schenectady County Jail without bail.
