Glenmont resident and Slingerlands Elementary student Kelly Cusack made a strong showing at the national round of the Braille Challenge in Los Angeles this past weekend, taking second place in the grade 3-4 age group. The contest tests blind students on Braille skills of all types. Cusack, who has been blind since birth, was one of about 850 students who participated in regional competitions held across the U.S. and Canada earlier this year. She is pictured here receiving a $1,000 savings bond along with Assistant Vice President of the Braille Institute of America and actor Bill Chott.`
