Two kayakers found the body of man floating in the Mohawk River on the morning of Monday, May 16, and police identified the body on Tuesday, May 17, as Bernard Hill, 52, of Schenectady.
Police said after the pair of kayakers brought the body near the shoreline they contacted police at approximately 10:47 a.m. on May 16. The body was transported to Ellis Hospital and results have shown Hill drowned, said Sgt. Matthew Dearing, spokesman for the Schenectady Police Department. While no foul play is suspected, said Dearing, city detectives are still investigating the incident.
The body was discovered near the train bridge by Freemans Bridge Road in Glenville and was removed by emergency personnel at the nearby boat launch next to the Lighthouse Restaurant.
While Dearing said the department didn’t have a current address for where Hill lived, Hill had a few residences in the city as of last year.
