Guilderland Chamber of Commerce President Kathy Burbank has sent out an e-mail asking people to donate to the Rodino family, who lost their daughter, Rachel, to Huntington’s Disease last year, and whose father and son also suffer from the disease.
The message follows:
Friends, Business leaders, Community Organizers, Neighbors–After dealing with the death of their 6 yr old daughter Rachel to Huntington’s disease, and taking care of her husband who has it, Lori Rodino is now faced with another tragedy. Her 19 year old son has just been diagnosed, and is exhibiting symptoms almost as advanced as his father. There is no cure from this disease, and it is neurological; progressively rendering the person helpless.
The entire Guilderland community helped The Rodino’s when we found out Lori, unable to work, was facing foreclosure on the family home. They are now heading down the same path, with Lori having to still take care of her husband Rick and now her son-she is taking a paper route to get money and still be around to help her family.
They have an account at Key Bank at STAR PLAZA-the Rodino Family Fund-and anyone can go deposit money directly to them. We will accept gift cards for food or anything here at the chamber also.
The chamber will be helping the neighbors again with some fundraising events at local establishments, so keep your eyes open, and anything you can do to help is greatly appreciated.
