A Rotterdam man was arrested at a Malta Price Chopper after confrontation with security, according to police reports.
On March 3, State Police responded to the Price Chopper store in Malta in regards to a shoplifting complaint that turned into a fight, according to police reports. Store security had observed Joshua Welch, 39, load up a grocery cart with $559 worth of food and attempt to leave the store without paying, said police, and when Welch was confronted by security he attempted to flee when they tried to detain him. A struggle ensued and two more store security personnel plus one shopper joined the struggle and were finally able to subdue and detain Welch, according to police reports.
Welch was arrested for assault in the third degree and petit larceny and was remanded to Saratoga County Jail in lieu of $1,000 bail. The City of Schenectady Police Department will also be lodging a warrant for Welch at the jail.`
