Saratoga County residents can now sign up to receive emergency alerts on their cell phones or email.
Saratoga County Supervisor Matthew Veitch announced Tuesday, Jan. 11, that residents can add cell phone numbers and e-mail addresses into the County’s Emergency Notification service. Veitch, who chaired the sub-committee of the Board of Supervisors Public Safety Committee charged with overseeing this project, said that the County’s Office of Emergency Services, the County Sheriff’s Office and each municipality within Saratoga County, now have the ability to notify residents via mobile phone and e-mail in case of an emergency or with important community alerts.
Residents’ home phone numbers (land lines) have been automatically registered in the emergency notification system and do not need to be entered during signup, according to information from the county.
To sign up for the service, residents should go to www.hyper-reach.com/saratogasignup.html and enter the required information.
This service will add greatly to the County’s ability to reach residents in the event of an emergency. Many County residents are transitioning to using cell phones instead of land lines, so this option will ensure that we are reaching as many residents as possible, said Veitch in a statement.
Board of Supervisors Chairman Thomas N. Wood, III said in a statement, `The County continues to see how advances in technology affect the lives of our residents. We will continue to anticipate and respond to these changes so that we are providing efficient and effective services.`
Any questions about the notification system can be directed to the Office of Emergency Services at 885-2243. A link to the signup is also available on the Emergency Services page on the County’s website: www.saratogacountyny.gov.“
