City residents can get rid of unwanted prescription medication on Saturday, Sept. 25, as part of an initiative between the Saratoga Springs Police Department, Saratoga Prevention Council and DEA.
Prescription Drug Take-Back Day will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Saratoga Springs PBA facility at 52 Weibel Ave. and police will also be available at the police station on Lake Ave. during those hours. The initiative is anonymous and prescription and over-the-counter medications will be accepted with no questions asked, according to information from police.
Police will accept unused, expired and unwanted medications including medicine samples. They cannot accept needles, thermometers, bloody or infectious waste or hydrogen peroxide. The public is encouraged to mark out any identifying information on containers to be turned in.
Any medications that are turned in will be sealed in appropriate containers by police and delivered to the DEA for destruction.
The PBA facility on Weibel Ave. is located on the east side of the roadway near the National Grid facility. Look for the flags at the entrance to the PBA property. Traffic cones will be in place to allow participants to drive up and drop off without having to get out of their car.
