The Colonie Landfill Exploratory Committee presented their findings this evening as how to best move forward with the Colonie Landfill and reported they narrowed their options down to one it said will have the most positive impact; a partnership with a private company.
Right now, this option has the most potential upside, said Public Works Commissioner Jack Cunningham.
The committee has already begun exploring the option and writing a draft proposal for the town to review by the next town board meeting. If accepted, the proposal would follow the regular 60 day public comment period, and then when the time has passed the town will have 10 days to act on the proposal.
Cunningham said the town would still have a `degree of control` of the landfill if the town were to enter a partnership with a private company. Mahan said a partnership would help in advancing the town into the use of new technologies at the landfill.
`The new technology out there is unbelievable,` said Mahan. `These bigger companies, they’re very progressive and they do have the funds to invest in a lot more opportunities.`
