According to New York State Department of Transportation Officials, an accident at the corner of Fuller Road and the Washington Avenue Extension around 1 p.m. Thursday, June 24, left one New York State Police Trooper with an unknown injury. The officer was directing traffic.
The injured trooper, David Ennist, is a 12-year veteran from the Clifton Park station. The other driver has been identified as Krista Thompson, 30, of Troy. According to police reports, Thomson had a green light in the intersection but Ennist’s marked patrol car was clearly seen and with all the emergency lights activated.
Thompson was issued a traffic ticket for failure to yield to an emergency vehicle.
It was reported early on, that Ennist was hit outside the car because onlookers saw him lying on the pavement, but he was inside the patrol vehicle when it was struck, according to police reports. Ennist exited the car after being struck and injured, but was unable to stand up and collapsed on the roadway. He was taken to Albany Medical Center and police say the nature of his injuries is still unknown at this time.
First reports of the incident came at around 1:45 and the collision was cleared up by approximately 2:18 according to state officials.
State Police said Ennist is usually assigned patrol duties around Saratoga County but was on special assignment.
