Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake’s Otis Ubriaco collected another state title.
Ubriaco — the Class B state cross country champion — nipped Greene’s Chad Noelle at the finish line to win the boys Federation 3,200-meter race at last weekend’s New York State High School Track and Field Championships in Binghamnton. Ubriaco finished with a time of 9:04.75, two-hundredths of a second ahead of Noelle.
Saratoga Springs’ Madalayne Smith also left Binghamton with a state and Federation title. Smith won the Division I (large school) 100-meter high hurdles with a time of 13.82 seconds, and she claimed the Federation title in the same event with a time of 14.09 seconds.
Saratoga’s girls 3,200-meter relay team placed third in a highly competitive field that included two other highly-ranked teams, Garden City and Shenendehowa. Garden City took first place with a time of 8:49.88, while Saratoga placed third with a time of 8:50.70 0.14 seconds behind second-place Fayetteville-Manlius. Shen placed fourth.
Lizzie Predmore, who ran on Shen’s 3,200-meter relay team, placed fifth in the Federation 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:31.38.
On the boys’ side, BH-BL’s Chris Fernandez and Scott Maughan finished fourth in their respective events. Fernandez was fourth in the 800-meter race with a time of 1:52.99, while Maughan placed fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:35.16.
Saratoga’s Tim Mount added a fourth-place finish in the Federation 400-meter dash with a time of 49.88 seconds. Mount was coming off a sixth-place performance in the Division I 400 dash.`
