A post-Dave Matthews concert accident proved fatal, according to information from Saratoga Springs Police Department. According to reports, around 11:55 p.m. on Friday, June 4, city police and New York State Park Police responded to a motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian on Route 9 near the Top of the Hill Motel. Edward Bernys, 42, of Oswego, was apparently attempting to cross Route 9 to get to the motel when he was struck in the northbound driving lane by an SUV. Police say the vehicle involved and other vehicles immediately pulled over and witnesses called 911 and started tending to Bernys. EMS responded to the scene and Berny was transported to Saratoga Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Bernys was returning to the Top of the Hill Motel where he was staying after attending the concert, said police, and the accident is still under investigation. Police are asking any witnesses to the accident to contact the Saratoga Springs Police Department at 584-1800.
