State and local Schenectady County and City officials joined members of the Golub Corporation to officially dedicate the new Headquarters at the corner of Nott Street and Maxon Road in the City of Schenectady on Wednesday, June 2.
We wanted a building that would raise our team members and our associates while helping in the renaissance of Schenectady, said Golub Corporation CEO Neil Golub at the dedication.
The six story, 240,000 square foot building houses more than 725 associates that support the operations the Price Chopper supermarket chain. The building was built upon a former Brownfield site and has been built to help save energy, promote efficiencies in energy and water and has incorporated recycled materials with Gold level LEEDS certification. President and Chief Operation Officer of Price Chopper Jerry Golub said the company is aware of their future impact on the environment.
`Today more than ever we must be consious of our impact on our environment.` he said.
Schenectady County Commissioner of Economic Development and Planning Ray Gillen said the Golub Corporation has made a commitment to the county by keeping their headquarters here and has also helped to add to the community. Gillen also pointed out the revitalization of a former Brownfield.
`Some people said that this site would never be redeveloped, look behind me,` said Gillen.
The new headquarters also includes a fitness and wellness center for associates, a cafe offering fresh foods and plans for the creation of a walking track to help to promote healthy living alongside the new enviormental improvements to the building and the site. In a release, Neil Golub said that the move downtown was a natural one for the company as a part of the revitilization of downtown.
`Schenectady is and always has been our hometown. When it became apparent that we were outgrowing our old main office facility, relocating to downtown Schenectady and becoming a part of the city’s renaissance was a natural move for us.`
The Golub Corporation has also recently opened six new stores including a new location in Lincoln, NH.
