An arrest has been made in the Monday, May 24, robbery of Saratoga National Bank, according to police reports.
Matthew E. Forbes, 25, of Walter Drive in Saratoga Springs, was arrested in the morning on Tuesday, May 25, after a warrant was issued for his arrest Monday evening. Forbes turned himself in to police at the Saratoga Springs police department on Lake Avenue, according to reports. Lt. Gregory Veitch said Forbes knew there was a warrant out for his arrest and arranged through a family member to turn himself in peacefully.
Forbes has been charged with Robbery in the third degree, a felony.
According to police, Forbes allegedly entered Saratoga National Bank around 11:44 a.m. Monday, May 24, and a bank teller reported to police a white male with short blonde hair and wearing a white bandana handed her a note demanding a specific amount of money. The teller complied and police said no weapon was displayed during the transaction. The suspect then fled the bank in a 2002 red Volvo station wagon, which police later recovered in the parking lot of a CVS in Niskayuna.
According to reports, the teller recognized Forbes and police who responded to the bank viewed the security video and confirmed the identity of the suspect as Forbes. Police said they believe they have recovered a portion of the money stolen during the robbery.
Forbes was arraigned in City Court and remanded to Saratoga County Jail in lieu of $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond.
