Rotterdam Republican Frank Salamone has been nominated by the Rotterdam Republican Committee to run in the upcoming November election against Democratic candidate Wayne Calder.
The two candidates will be running for the open town board seat currently held by Republican Gerard Parisi, who was appointed to the seat by former Town Supervisor Steve Tommasone in 2009.
According to Salamone, the issues that the town are dealing with are no longer Republican or Democrat issues, but what is in the best interest for the town overall. Salamone said that he hopes to build upon the work that Parisi has done at the seat.
I think that Mr. Parisi is doing a great job and I will continue the role that Mr. Parisi has as the voice of reason, said Salamone.
Parisi said that he believes that Salamone is a great selection for the election, and has been involved in town government issues. Parisi will not be running for his town board seat in November and has been selected by the Rotterdam Republican Committee to run for the 105 Assembly District over two term incumbent George Amdeore.
In a release, Schenectady County Republican Chairman Tom Buchanan said Salamone is suited to hold the current administration accountable in regards to ethics and transparency.
`It is time for this administration to be held accountable. I think Frank is ideally suited for this role and he is certainly one of the most credentialed candidates we have ever seen run for town office,` said Buchanan in a release.
Salamone’s main issues include transparency and open government in the town, two issues he said the town board has not shown.
`My candidacy is about doing what is right for the citizens. It is time that the government starts asking the people what they want, rather than telling the people what they are going to get,` said Salamone in a release. `Our government should be listening to the residents of this Town. The current administration has demonstrated a willingness to favor its friends and campaign contributors to the detriment of the Town and the residents thereof.`
