Ballston Lake will get a makeover from its very own residents on Saturday, May 1, from 8 a.m. to noon for the annual Ballston Lake Clean Up Day.
Sponsored by the Ballston Lake Improvement Association and Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Business and Professional Association each year, volunteers, families and community groups gather at the Ballston Lake Fire Station on Route 146A that morning where they get a supply of plastic bags, a free t-shirt, donuts and their assignment.
Major roadways like Lake Road, Route 146A, Main Street, East Side Drive, West Side Drive and Outlet Road are primary targets to be cleared of winter debris. Any residents in those areas are encouraged to sign up for their own neighborhoods to ensure they’re adequately taken care of, according to information from the town. The town suggests that volunteers wear boots and gloves.
This is a grass roots project that has been going on for years, said Pete Herman, president of the Ballston Lake Improvement Association. `It’s a very family friendly event and a community unifier…we’re once again hoping for a strong volunteer turnout to help spruce up our roadsides. We’ve never been disappointed by the response.`
Volunteers also get a hot dog lunch when they’re finished cleaning.
`I encourage everyone to participate,` said Ballston Supervisor Patti Southworth in a statement. `This is a great way to meet new people and bond with your neighbors.`
