A Saratoga Springs man was arrested at his residence on Monday, April 19, on charges related to child pornography, according to Saratoga Springs police.
James M. Bowman, 49, was arrested at his home, 98 Van Dam Street, by Saratoga Springs City Police and members of the New York State Computer Crime Unit, said Lt. Gregory Veitch.
According to police, Bowman possessed and transmitted images depicting children less than 16 involved in sexual conduct. The images were allegedly stored on Bowman’s computer and had been transmitted by him over the Internet during the past several months; police said they believe the activity could have been going on for several years. It is not believed that Bowman knew any of the children in the images.
Veitch said police became aware of the alleged activity several months ago when state and city police were notified by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children of possible child pornography activity.
Bowman has been charged with a class E felony count of Possessing a Sexual Performance by a Child and a class D felony count of Promoting a Sexual Performance of a Child, according to police. He was arraigned in Saratoga Springs City court and remanded to Saratoga County Jail in lieu of $2,500 cash bail.
