It’s been a bad year for ankle injuries at Shaker.
The fifth and latest member of the boys basketball team to suffer an ankle injury is center Scott Seiter, who twisted his left ankle on the opening tip-off of Friday’s 55-46 Suburban Council victory over Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake.
It’s never happened to any team I’ve coached, said Shaker coach Jeff Holmes. `Luckily, we had brought up a JV guy [Casey Hall] just before the game. Without him, we would have been in trouble.`
The Blue Bison (5-4 league, 6-5 overall) overcame Seiter’s absence by playing tough defense against BH-BL (4-4, 5-5), especially in the second quarter. Shaker forced several Spartan turnovers that turned into quick points at the other end of the floor.
`I think our pressure [defense] helped us,` said Holmes. `We mixed up our presses, and that seemed to help.`
Chris Bogdan and Chris Hooks were the primary beneficiaries of BH-BL’s turnovers. Each player had several layups on their way to double-digit nights. Bogdan had with 16 points, while Hooks netted 15 points.
Keaton Flint had 15 points, and Jacob Meyers added 12 points for BH-BL, but Shaker limited leading scorer Zachary Morton to nine points.
`I think we did a pretty good job contending with their size and athleticism,` said Holmes.
Shaker returned to action Tuesday when it traveled to Rotterdam to face Mohonasen.“
