A 12-year-old Saratoga Springs boy was the victim of an alleged abduction attempt on Monday, Jan. 11, according to Lt. Greg Veitch.
The boy’s father told Saratoga Springs police that while his son was walking home from school on Beekman Street, his son was approached by a white male driving a dark colored sedan with tinted windows. The boy told his father that the male inside said come on, get in, I have something for you but the youth ran immediately home and told his father about the incident.
Veitch said the boy was able to provide a few details of the suspect but that police are not releasing them at this time in the `best interest of the investigation.` He said police stopped several vehicles in the area that matched the description but didn’t develop any leads.
School crossing guards were notified by police of the incident and were asked to be `extra vigilant` in noticing vehicles that act suspiciously around the schools. Veitch said city police and Saratoga Springs City School District officials are working cooperatively to ensure the safety of students.
Police ask that anyone who may have seen a suspicious vehicle in the area of Beekman Street just off Church Street between 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. on Monday to contact them with any information. They said they are particularly interested in anyone who may have noticed a vehicle pulled over on the opposite side of the roadway, facing the wrong direction, during those hours. Also, police ask the parents of any other children who may have been approached in a similar way to contact them.
