A fatal accident occurred on Western Ave, and Okara Drive at about 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday Dec. 30 when a woman ran out on the road in an attempt to rescue her dog.
The woman, Jeannie Neumann, 58, of Guilderland, was struck by a semi truck after attempting to cross the road to subdue her wayward dog.
According to police The victim [Neumann] was transported to the Albany Medical Center by the Western Turnpike Rescue Squad and Guilderland Paramedics in trauma arrest where she was pronounced dead at the hospital a short time later.
The accident caused a road closure for the evening hours in both directions on Western Ave between Route 146 and Hague Drive.
According to police the investigation into the accident is ongoing; however, it does not appear that speed or alcohol was a factor.
