Tickets to see Natalie Merchant perform at the Shaker Meeting House, across from the Albany International Airport, on Sunday, Sept. 27 will go on sale this Saturday, Aug. 22.
The concert will be held at 1:20 p.m. and proceeds from the tickets, which range in price from $50-$150, will go toward the education and historical preservation of the Shaker Heritage Society.
According to Starlyn D’Angelo, executive director of the Shaker Heritage Society, Merchant has been very interested in the Society since the late 1990s, when she was in the area, visiting her parents, and stopped in to the museum. Merchant then returned to the museum with her daughter a couple of months ago and began talking to Education Coordinator Anne Clothier about coming to the Meeting House to perform a concert and help the Society raise money to continue their educational program.
Merchant will be performing new and old songs, as well as some Shaker songs, D’Angelo said. She will be singing without a microphone and entirely acoustic, with two backup guitarists performing alongside her.
