On Tuesday, July 7, the Schalmont Board of Education approved the appointment of Jason Thompson to the position of assistant principal at Jefferson Elementary School.
He is filling the position vacated by former assistant principal Beth Bini.
Jason is committed to students and to raising student achievement. He also has a good sense of humor, which you greatly need in this profession, said Joby Gifford, the principal of Jefferson Elementary School in a written statement.
Thompson most recently worked for the Cobleskill-Richmondville Central School District, where he spent five years as a teacher. During that time he taught fifth grade and full-day kindergarten, to which all three Schalmont elementary schools will expand this September. He also spent a year as a summer school principal and an administrative intern. Prior to his time in Cobleskill-Richmondville, Thompson spent a year teaching second grade in the South Colonie Central School District and eight months substitute teaching for Capital Region BOCES.
Thompson holds a bachelor’s degree from SUNY Albany and a master’s degree from the College of St. Rose. In 2009, he also earned an advanced graduate certificate in school building leadership from SUNY Albany. He currently holds New York State certifications as a school building leader and as an educator for pre-kindergarten, kindergarten and grades 1-6.
He resides in Guilderland with his wife, Alecia, and their three children.“
