In a hardly surprising move, Saratoga County District Attorney James Murphy announced his intent to seek reelection on Thursday, June 4, from Longfellow’s Restaurant in Saratoga Springs.
Murphy is now nearing the end of this third four-year term. He secured the endorsement of the Saratoga County Republican Committee in May.
In a statement, Murphy said that the county’s low crime rate and his office’s high conviction rate are factors in his reelection bid, but also mentioned the value of crime prevention over enforcement.
If we can prevent a teenager from becoming part of the criminal justice system, then we have done the right thing. Not only saving taxpayers thousands of dollars, but keeping a kid on the right track, said Murphy.
So far, no other candidates for DA have emerged.“
