Former state Senate candidate and Kirsten Gillibrand staffer Mike Russo will be taking a job at GlobalFoundries, a microchip manufacturer poised to build a $4.2 billion plant in Malta.
Russo will join GlobalFoundries global government relations team, and will be responsible for representing GlobalFoundries’ policy positions and priorities to U.S. Executive, legislative and regulatory entities, according to a press release from the chipmaker.
Russo left his job as local representative for then-Congresswoman Gillibrand in 2008 to become the Democratic candidate for the 43rd Senate District, the seat formerly held by Joseph Bruno. He lost to Roy McDonald.
Before working for Gillibrand, he was a labor leader.
GlobalFoundries is the manufacturing spinoff of Advanced Micro Devices. It is currently in negotiations to purchase a 222-acre plot of land in the Luther Forest Technology Campus, where permission has already been granted for land clearing to begin.
