Mercy is defined as: an act of kindness, compassion, or favor.
This is exactly what the Bethlehem softball team was forced to show to Cohoes last Thursday when they won 15-0 in a game shortened to five innings due to the mercy rule.
Christina Moloney set the tone for the game in her return from injury. She allowed two weak hits in the top of the second inning, and that was it. From that point on, Moloney was un-hittable, striking out 10 and allowing only three more base-runners.
On the offensive side of things, Mary Beth Dombrowski pounded the softball. She had four RBI in the game, half of which came on a mammoth home run to center field, which although there is no fence at Bethlehem most certainly would have been over any fence in Section II. She added a two RBI double to cap off the 15-run outburst by the Eagles.
Out bats are hot right now, and we are going to go with that, said coach Karen Gentile.
Sammy Smaldone and Dominique Shade both added three RBI in the blowout.
