The Guilderland boys lacrosse team used a big fourth quarter to pull off a key non-league victory.
The Dutchmen (8-1) outscored Lakeland/Panas 5-0 over the final 12 minutes to defeat the Rebels 15-10 last Saturday in Lakeland.
It was back and forth all the way, but we possessed the ball for pretty much the entire fourth quarter, said Guilderland coach Sean McConaghy. `We won all the face-offs in the fourth quarter. That was the turning point of the game. We never let them have the ball.`
Dan Lee and Paul Jones each recorded hat tricks, while Bryan Dyer added two goals and three assists for Guilderland, which led 9-7 at halftime. Seven more Dutchmen scored goals including E.J. Genzano, Travis Moore and Rory Nunamacher ` all of whom also had one assist.
Guilderland entered Saturday’s non-league game off a 13-2 Suburban Council victory over Shenendehowa last Thursday. The Dutchmen scored seven unanswered goals from late in the first quarter to the end of the third quarter to break the game open.
Dyer led Guilderland with four goals. Genzano contributed a hat trick, while Nunamacher and Anthony Powers each recorded two goals and three assists.
Anthony Zappone and Brenden Dion tallied for Shenendehowa.
In other Suburban Council boys lacrosse action last Thursday, Bethlehem’s struggles continued with a 6-5 loss to Shaker.
The Eagles (1-7) led 3-1 after the first quarter, but the Blue Bison rallied with four goals in the second quarter to take a 5-4 halftime lead. Bethlehem never quite recovered as it suffered its third one-goal loss of the season.
Mike Rondinaro netted two goals and an assist, and Andy Bettinger added two goals for the Eagles. Doug Swezey tallied twice for Shaker.
