The Shenendehowa girls track and field team dominated the competition at Saturday’s Fleet Feet Lady Eagles Invitational at Bethlehem Central High School.
The Plainsmen finished with 136.5 points, 12.5 points ahead of runner-up Holy Names. Bethlehem was seventh with 48 points.
Michelle Quimby led Shen with individual victories in the high jump and pole vault. Quimby cleared 5 feet, 5 inches in the high jump finals and 11 feet in the pole vault.
Lizzie Predmore, Kelsey Hanson and Carrie Laurenzo added individual victories for the Plainsmen. Predmore won the 1,500-meter race in a time of 4:44.10, while Hanson took first place in the 100-meter high hurdles with a time of 15.73 seconds. Laurenzo finished first in the discus with a throw of 95 feet, 9 inches in the finals.
Molly Hassett led Bethlehem with a victory in the 2,000-meter steeplechase. Hassett finished first in a time of 7:27.01, 10 seconds ahead of Cady Kuzmich of Greenwich.
The Bethlehem boys track team had a strong showing at the Albright Invitational at Albany Academy Saturday. The Eagles finished second in the team standings with 96 points, 14.5 points behind Albany High School.
Bethlehem’s strength was in the relays. The Eagles won the 1,600- and 3,200-meter relays to pick up 20 of their 96 points.
Paul Buehler had the top individual performance for the Eagles. Buehler won the triple jump by covering a distance of 44 feet.
Buehler nearly won a second individual event when he placed second in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16 seconds. LaSalle’s Tyler Washington nipped Buehler at the finish line to win the race.
Gene O’Hanlon also had a second-place finish for Bethlehem. O’Hanlon ran a time of 22.9 seconds in the 200-meter dash to finish less than one second behind Albany’s Kareem Morris, who was named the meet’s most outstanding track athlete after winning two individual events.
Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk took 10th place in the team standings with 23 points. The Indians’ top finish was a third-place performance in the 1,600 relay.`
