Saratoga Springs’ Madalayne Smith won two titles at last weekend’s New York State Indoor Track and Field Championships in Ithaca.
The junior set a Section II record in winning the girls 55-meter hurdles title with a time of 7.96 seconds, and she took first place in the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.14 seconds.
Smith’s performance highlighted a strong day for Saratoga County athletes at the state meet. Several athletes placed in the top six of their individual events.
Shenendehowa’s Lizzie Predmore was second in the girls 3,000 with a time of 9:55.93, two seconds behind state champion Shelby Greaney of Suffern. Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake’s Sam Roecker was fourth in a time of 9:58.87.
Shen’s Michelle Quimby placed third in the pole vault by clearing the bar at 12 feet, 3 inches. Sydnie Leroy of Port Jervis won the title by clearing 12 feet, 6 inches.
The Shen 3,200 relay team of Premore, Alex Burtnick, Cara Janeczko and Danika Simonson finished third with a time of 9:32.40. Bronxville finished first in a time of 9:19.20.
Simonson was also sixth in the 1,500 with a time of 4:43.73, .51 seconds behind fifth-place finisher Molly Pezzulo of BH-BL.
On the boys’s side, BH-BL’s Otis Ubriaco placed third in the 3,200 with a time of 9:19.46, less than six seconds behind state champ Robert Andrews of Shoreham-Wading River. Shen’s Alex Leuchanka was fourth in a time of 9:23.64.`
