The Bethlehem girls basketball team showed off their speed and size in a 58-44 Suburban Council victory over Columbia Tuesday.
Led by the Eagles’ big three of Alex McCullough, Megan Olsen and Jaclyn Oskam, Bethlehem took an early lead and never looked back. The first half was dominated by Oskam, as she scored 13 points, while Columbia scored 18 points as a team.
Columbia shut down Oskam in the third quarter, but that’s when Olsen and McCullough stepped up. Olsen scored 12 of her 15 points in the second half, and McCullough added several points to help Bethlehem (11-6) maintain its lead.
McCullough finished with 17 points, despite being matched up against Columbia’s Gabrielle Regan a player Bethlehem coach Mark Nealon called a very good post player.`
The only concern for the Eagles is the status of senior guard Taylor Teal. Teal got tangled up with Regan while going for a steal late in the fourth quarter and injured her arm. Nealon said that there was `no swelling` in Teal’s arm, and he was going to wait until later to find out the extent of her injury.
Regan scored 16 points to lead Columbia, with 10 of those points coming from the free throw line.
Bethlehem returns to action Friday when it hosts Saratoga Springs on Senior Night.
