The Shenendehowa boys basketball team cemented its spot on top of the Suburban Council North Division standings by avenging its lone league loss.
Matt Lee drained a three-pointer with less than 30 seconds left in the fourth quarter to give the Plainsmen a 53-51 victory over Saratoga Springs Tuesday night in Clifton Park.
Saratoga (7-5 league, 10-6 overall) looked like it was on its way to beating Shen for the second time this season. The Blue Streaks had a 10-point lead entering the fourth quarter, but the Plainsmen (11-1, 15-1) outscored them 17-5 to pull out the victory.
Manny Hernandez led a balanced Shen attack with 13 points. Matt Miner contributed 11 points, and Doug Milvaney added 10 points for the Plainsmen.
Jordan Stevens paced Saratoga with 19 points. James Tucker chipped in 10 points.
Shen returns to action Friday when it hosts Averill Park, while Saratoga welcomes Bethlehem in another Suburban Council contest.
In other league action Tuesday, Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake downed Ballston Spa 65-52.
It wasn’t as easy as the final score appeared, though. The Scotties (1-12, 3-13) went on a 19-9 run in the second quarter to take a 32-25 halftime lead before the Spartans (7-6, 8-8) outscored them 40-20 in the second half.
Zach Morton had 21 points, and Mike Pelletier added 13 points for BH-BL. Mark Seager’s 15 points paced Ballston Spa.`
