The Shenendehowa boys basketball team took the lead over Saratoga Springs in the Suburban Council North Division standings with a 56-42 victory over Ballston Spa last Friday.
The Plainsmen (8-1 league, 11-1 overall) jumped out to a 14-5 lead in the first quarter, but the Scotties (0-8, 2-9) refused to go away. They pulled within four points of Shen at the end of the third quarter before the Plainsmen went on a 23-13 run in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.
Matt Miner scored 18 points, and Doug Milvaney added nine points for Shen, which owned a one-game lead on Saratoga entering Tuesday’s game against Bethlehem.
Mark Seager netted 17 points for Ballston Spa.
While Shen was posting its win against Ballston Spa, the Jordan Stevens-less Saratoga Blue Streaks were losing to Shaker 53-39.
The Blue Bison (3-5, 4-8) grabbed a 16-7 lead in the first quarter and never let go as they broke a four-game league losing streak.
James Tucker scored 14 points to lead Saratoga (6-2, 9-3), which was playing its second full game without Stevens, who injured his ankle in a Jan. 9 game against Ballston Spa.
In other Suburban Council action last Friday, Niskyuna defeated Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake 57-32.
Zach Morton had 11 points for the Spartans (4-4, 5-5), who scored less than 10 points in each quarter.`
