Voters in the Saratoga Springs City School District approved the proposed $107,353,350 million budget on Tuesday, May 20.
The final tally was 2,399 votes in favor to 1,351 votes against.
The spending plan is expected to increase the tax levy by an estimated 2 to 6 percent.
The commitment of the Board of Education and the staff of the district is energized by this strong message of support from our community, said school Superintendent Janice White. `We will continue our work to provide excellent educational opportunities to every child, every day. The public acknowledgement of education as a priority, despite difficult economic times, inspires us.`
Voters also approved a projects improvement proposition with votes tallying 2,431 in favor and 1,214 against.
The $3.25 million will fund improvements to drop-off and pick-up loops for vehicles, east and west parking lots, and increased visitor parking at the Dorothy Nolan Elementary School. The high school will see roof repairs and upgrades to the gymnasium.
The capital projects will not involve costs to taxpayers; the projects will be paid for with existing funds left over from the sale of the district’s former administration building.
A third proposition to purchase up to eight 66-passenger school buses and one smaller wheelchair bus at a cost of $845,000 was approved with votes tallying 2,464 in favor and 1,255 against.
In the Board of Education race, the three open, uncontested seats were filled by Jeff Piro – 2,586, Mia Pfitzer – 2,581 and Frank Palumbo – 2,553.“
