Voters in the Niskayuna Central School District approved the proposed $70.1 million budget on Tuesday, May 20.
The final tally was 1,392 votes in favor to 1,050 votes against.
The spending plan is expected to increase the tax levy by an estimated 3.48 percent, the lowest increase in five years, for residents in Niskayuna.
Spending will increase by 3.88 percent in the operating budget of $65.6 million. The total budget of $70.1 million has new debt related to the current building project that is partly covered by state aid.
The school board has added resources in order to create a more supportive learning environment, help students build stronger connections with the schools and strengthen instructional programs in order to increase academic achievement, according to School Superintendent Kevin Baughman.
Voters also approved a bus proposition to purchase four full-size buses and five smaller buses, 1,581 to 850.
In the Board of Education race, incumbents Deb Oriola and Terry Weiner were re-elected to three-year terms, beginning July 1.
Board candidate vote tallies are as follows:
Deb Oriola – 1,116; Terry Weiner – 1,008; Peter Glaser – 870; Robert Gardner – 853; Ronald Anzalone – 480.
Oriola was elected to her first full term. She was appointed in 2007-08 to serve out the term of a board member who resigned. Weiner was elected to his seventh term on the board.`
