The Democrats in the village of Scotia will not only keep the position of mayor, but also will now hold the majority on the village board of trustees.
The democrats took control of all but one race Tuesday night in a victory Democratic campaign chairperson Louise Dundrum called a wonderful scenario for the village of Scotia.
`We are just elated. We took all but one race and we are thrilled,` said Dundrum.
The Democratic Party waited for results at the Turf Restaurant in Scotia that ended in a night of celebration for the candidates.
The campaign for mayor elect Kris Kastberg was about retaining the quality of life for village residents. Kastberg beat out current trustee and outspoken Republican candidate Armon Benny who said he promised to cut taxes and make it his priority. Joe Rizzo beat out Republican candidate Richard Gibbons, while the other seat for trustee went to Republican Tom Neals over democratic nominee Tom Gifford.
In the race for village justice newcomer Jason Frament beat out current justice Bob Moore.
Kastberg had received endorsements from the `Save the Geese` group, the League of Humane Voters, and the Independent Party as well. He will replace the current democratic mayor Mike McLaughlin who decided this past February not to run for re-election.
