Election time is drawing near, and the Republican candidate for the Malta Town Council position is gearing up with a campaign fundraiser this weekend.
Donna Gizzi will be looking to town residents to vote her into the position she has held since January when she was appointed by the town board to fill the seat vacated by Paul Sausville after he was elected town supervisor.
Soon after her appointment to the board, Gizzi was named the chairwoman for a committee focused on the town’s economic development. She said her participation in the Malta economic development committee is important to her.
We’re heading on a path to huge economic development changes in Malta, said Gizzi.
The committee is focused on promoting and nurturing Malta’s business environment. Members of the committee worked with the Department of Transportation to send out fliers to town residents detailing alternative routes to area businesses during the exit 12 construction, and, as part of that brochure, they provided educational material on the new roundabouts being constructed. The group is also tapped by the building and planning depart-ment to provide insight on conceptual plans for businesses hoping to come into the town.
Gizzi noted that she has begun reaching out to area residents by going door to door to speak with them about issues that concern them. She said her contact with residents isn’t about leaving a flier with a request for their vote, but instead she likes to have heartfelt conversations.
