Tai Chi Classes
St. Sophia’s Greek Orthodox Church
Mondays, 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. through May
Join Tae Kwon Do brown-belt John Jones as he leads this weekly class. Tai Chi is a collection of movements/postures, providing exercises in balance, coordination, physical control and regulation of breathing. To register, call Westview Senior Center at 482-2120, St. Sophia’s Greek Orthodox Church at 489-4442, or just come to the class.
Westview Choir at Westview
Mondays, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
The choir will be performing “A Sentimental Journey through the 40s, 50s and 60s” for Newgate Adult Day Program this month. All seniors are invited to join this choral group. No singing experience is necessary.
New Crochet Club at Westview
Tuesdays, 12:30 p.m.
Henrietta Bohanon, Westview volunteer, is the facilitator of the class. Westview will supply the yarn, but we ask that you bring your own crochet needles. The goal of this service club is to crochet winter wear (i.e. blankets, quilts, hats,scarfs and gloves) to donate to homeless veterans. For further information, call 482-2120.
Sewing for Beginners
Thursdays and Fridays, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Continuing after lunch 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. on Thursdays and 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. on Fridays
The sewing class meets two times a week on Thursdays & Fridays. We have openings in our new class, which is creating blouses, skirts and slacks. The sewing department can supply fabric; however we ask that you bring your own pattern if possible. All seniors are welcome. Instructor: seamstress Alena Taylor. Call 482-2120 for more information.
Meditation for Life
Monday, Feb. 1
Learn about and practice the different types of meditation and visualization techniques using basic relaxation, breathing and musical exercises. Various speakers will discuss styles of meditation as part of the class. The facilitator is Samuel L. Singletary, R.N., CHT.
Back to Eden
Monday, Feb. 29, 12:30 p.m.
An alternative and natural healing discussion and presentation group that will meet in the sewing room at the Westview Senior Center. Learn how to have a more positive impact on your health and wellness. Samuel L. Singletary, R.N.C.H.T. will be the discussion leader and presenter along with other speakers.
Laughter Yoga
Wednesday, Feb. 24, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Larry Steffler, BSW, CLYL, invites you to laugh your way to less stress and more joy. No previous yoga experience is needed. All fitness and mobility levels are welcome. Laughter yoga is just deep breathing, the willingness to let go, and reconnecting with our childlike nature and laughing.
Senior Legal Services
Tuesday, Feb. 9, 9:30 a.m. to noon
Brittany Sergent of Legal Aid Society of Northeastern New York, Inc. will meet, via appointment, with seniors age 60 and over. She will provide confidential legal advice and services. The program is funded by the Albany County Department for Aging. Please call Westview Senior Center at 482-2120 to make your appointment.

Walmart in Glenmont Shopping Trip: Tuesday, Feb. 9. The Senior Service bus will leave Westview Senior Center at 12:30 p.m. and will return at 2:15 p.m. Call 482-2120 to reserve your bus seat.

Attention, Wednesday night dinner participants: Westview Senior Center will be hosting Wednesday Night dinners every week. The following is the schedule for February:
Feb. 3: Happy Hour 3:30-4:45 p.m.; dinner 5 to 6 p.m.
Feb. 10: Happy Hour 3:30 to 4:45 p.m.; dinner 5 to 6 p.m. Join us from 5:30 to 7 p.m. as we enjoy special entertainment with well known area singer “Guytono,” who will be performing a variety of love songs in honor of Valentine’s Day.
Feb. 17: Happy Hour 3:30 to 4:45 p.m.; dinner 5 to 6 p.m.
Feb. 24: Happy Hour 3:30 to 4:45 p.m.; dinner 5 p.m.; Bingo 5:30 to 7 p.m.— $.10 per card and $1 for the jackpot.
To make your dinner reservation, call 482-2120 by the date of each dinner by 11 a.m. Suggested contribution is $4.35. There is no charge for entertainment this month.
Chinese New Year Celebration
Monday, Feb. 8, 12:30 p.m.
Learn about all the Chinese New Year customs. The program will feature John Jones, Tai Chi instructor for Senior Services of Albany, who will do a special Tai Chi demonstration with some of the members of his Monday morning class. Chinese refreshments will be served.
History of African-American Fashion
Monday, Feb. 22, 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.
Discover the fascinating history of the clothing and accessories of African-American men’s and women’s fashion. Members of the Senior Center will display and show a variety of African dress outfits and apparel.
History of African-American Hairstyles
Tuesday, Feb. 23, 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.
Discover the world of African-American hairstyles as we explore the life of Madame Walker, the first female self-made millionaire in America who developed and marketed a line of beauty and hair products for black women. Samuel L. Singletary, volunteers from Westview and students from the cosmetology class of Abrookin Career Technical Center will be leading this workshop.
