MALTA – Shaker won the Section II Class AA championship by beating Ballston Spa 5-2 on Saturday, May 27.
Senior standout Alissa Folts went three for four and scored three times for Shaker while Allie Lajeunesse went two for four with a double.
Bella Spadinger put the nail in any chance of a Ballston Spa comeback with a home run in the top of the seventh.
Shaker jumped out to a 2-0 lead after three, but Ballston Spa tied it up in the fourth. Shaker answered with two runs in the fifth on a double by Jessie Kirker, an RBI by single Folts and an RBI double by Lajeunesse.
Lajeunesse went the distance for Shaker giving up two runs on five hits while walking two and striking out three.
For Ballston Spa, Lauren Kersch gave up five runs on nine hits while not walking any and striking out seven.
Shaker will play the Section III champ in a regional final Friday at 5 p.m. at Carrier Field in Syracuse.
