State Police in Loudonville arrested an Albany man who was in possession of 11 pounds of marijuana on Sunday, Nov. 27, according to police reports.
Jermaine Johnson, 30, was charged with criminal possession of marijuana in the first degree and assault in the second degree, both felonies, along with numerous vehicle and traffic violations, according to police reports.
Around 4:29 p.m., State Police conducted a vehicle and traffic stop of Johnson’s vehicle on I-90 in Albany for an unsafe lane change, when Johnson punched the trooper in the side of the head while being questioned outside the vehicle, according to police reports. Johnson got back in his vehicle and sped off, initiating a pursuit on I-90 that ended on Lincoln Avenue where Johnson sideswiped a vehicle stopped in traffic and two other parked vehicles, nearly running over a pedestrian, according to police reports. Johnson was chased briefly on foot by State Police and City of Albany Police before being found hiding in a fenced yard, according to police reports.
Further investigation revealed 11 pounds of marijuana in the trunk of Johnson’s 2011 Nissan rental vehicle, according to police reports.. Johnson was arraigned and remanded to Albany County Jail without bail and additional charges are anticipated, said police.
