SLINGERLANDS — A 59-year-old Albany woman “suffered a medical event” which caused her to crash her car into Visionworks in the Slingerlands Price Chopper Plaza at 1365 New Scotland Road on Saturday, April 11 at 5 p.m., according to Bethlehem police.
The report did not specify what the medical event was but it led Elizabeth McCann’s 2002 Mazda 626 to leave the roadway, go down a grass embankment and into the Visionworks store.
While Bethlehem police, Bethlehem Building Department and the Slingerlands and Delmar fire departments responded to the scene, Delmar-Bethlehem EMS and Albany County Paramedics arrived and treated her but she declined transport to a hospital.
As the area’s businesses were closed due to social distancing and concerns for the COVID-19 pandemic, no pedestrians were in the vicinity. Police reported that the area would have otherwise been heavily congested on a typical Saturday evening.
McCann was issued a traffic citation for driving across hazardous markings and is scheduled to appear in the Bethlehem Town Court in May.
