ALBANY — Chef Ric Orlando knows the sweet taste of victory.
The nationally renowned Albany chef has earned accolades in recent years. He was twice named “Chopped Champion” on the popular television Food Network television series. And, on “Beat Bobby Flay,” he did just that, beating the world famous cook on national television.
However, last week, Orlando was bestowed the Spirit of Hospitality Award at the annual Albany Chef’s Food & Wine Festival. The award was presented by the festivals board of directors, honoring the unending generosity and commitment to the community.
“[I am] very honored to receive this Spirit of Hospitality award from the Albany Wine Fest committee,” stated Orlando on social media.
Through the years, Orlando has been an outspoken voice for the flavors and ingredients of the world community. He has also been a tireless promoter for the products, people and beauty of the Capital District and Hudson Valley.
Orlando is owner and operator of New World Bisto. He is also a Chef-partner with Hannaford supermarkets, helping to raise funds for hunger and nutrition programs throughout the region.
Orlando is sometimes known as the “rock and roll” chef. Before earning his chops in the kitchen, he developed his cultural roots through the underground music and arts scene of New York City, New Haven and Boston. It is in those communities where he found his passion for global flavors, eating and redefining urban ethnic dishes.
