Adults: summer reading is for you, too! Register on guilderlandlibrary.beanstack.org for our “All Together Now” summer reading challenge. The goal is to read at least ten books and log them in Beanstack. You could win one of two camping kits, or a $50 gift card to Jericho Drive-In! Also, we’re featuring a hand-picked selection of books for “Score One for Summer,” with multiple copies available. After finishing a book, score it from one to five stars to be eligible to win a prize! More information is available at the Information Desk.
Proper Pruning Techniques
Join professional Arborist Fred Breglia on Sat. July 8 from 9:30-11:00 a.m. as he delves into the most up-to-date concepts and methodologies regarding pruning trees and shrubs. After an indoor educational component, Fred will take the class outdoors to demonstrate some cuts on live trees on Library property. All skill levels welcome, rain or shine. Please register on the Events Calendar at guilderlandlibrary.org.
Night Owls Book Club
Jump-start your summer reading by obtaining a copy of Barbara Kingsolver’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, “Demon Copperhead,” at the Information Desk. This hybrid book discussion, led by Librarian Maura Powers-Smith, occurs on Mon. July 10 at 7:30 p.m. Please register in advance online.

Live Virtual Author Talks
GPL is excited to showcase a live virtual author talk series each month featuring bestselling, award-winning, and highly-acclaimed authors and thought leaders from around the world. This ongoing series takes place two to three times a month and features a Q & A session with the audience. Upcoming speakers for July:
• Charles Soule, “The Endless Vessel,” on Sat. July 15 at 2:00 p.m.
The New York Times Bestselling Author of “Daredevil” and “She-Hulk” discusses his latest work, which explores the ways we’re all connected, and what can happen when we lose our capacity for joy. Ultimately, this is a story of love, hope and possibility.
• Ethan Cross, “Chatter: The Voice in Our Head,” on Thurs. July 20 at 1:00 p.m.
This online author visit focuses on self-talk, and how to transform our undermining internal dialogue into an affirming life coach that will buoy us up and help us expand our potential.
• Erika L. Sanchez, “Crying in the Bathroom: A Memoir,” on Tues. July 25 at 4:00 p.m. This award-winning writer, who delights in keeping it real, will unpack her original, moving and disarmingly funny memoir. Insightful, unapologetic and brutally honest, this book evokes being in a safe haven with a confidante for hours, baring your souls.
Please see the “Virtual Author Talks” link on our website’s home page, or visit https://libraryc.org/guilderlandlibrary, to register. Our thanks to the Guilderland Library Foundation for partially funding this initiative.
