Guilderland Public Library: Doghiker talk and book signing

Spotlight Newsroom by Spotlight Newsroom
June 16, 2022
in Blogs, Community Blogs, Guilderland, Towns
Reading Time: 4 mins read

Happy trails…and tails!  We’re hosting an in-person book talk and signing with local author Alan Via on Thursday, June 30, at 6:30 p.m.

Via’s trailblazing book, “Doghiker: Great Hikes with Dogs from the Adirondacks through the Catskills,” is more than a comprehensive guidebook detailing 77 outstanding places to hike; it’s also a dog owner’s operating manual and tool kit.

He will cover key points of his book, then take us on a slideshow tour of gorgeous hiking scenery with canine companions.

“Doghiker” is a must-have NYS hiker’s manual, even if you don’t have a dog. Copies of the book, signed and personalized by the author, will be available for purchase.

Please register on the Events tab of our website for this special event.

My Garden of a Thousand Bees

In advance of National Pollinator Week (June 20-26), we’ve been giving away hundreds of packets of native wildflower seeds (Northeast blend) to attract hummingbirds, bees and butterflies.

This initiative was made possible thanks to the #PlantWildflowers Campaign, a joint venture of PBS, Nature, and Tangled Bank Studios, producer of the award-winning documentary “My Garden of a Thousand Bees.”

We’re screening this impactful film on Wednesday, June 22, at 6 p.m. in our Westbrook Room.

Space is limited; please register on the Events calendar at guilderlandlibrary.org to reserve your spot.

Revised Hours June 16

In order to better facilitate our patrons and showcase our collection, we will be reconfiguring several bookshelves in our main reading room the morning of Thursday, June 16.  We will be open 1 to 9 p.m.

Trustees Meet

The Guilderland Public Library Board of Trustees will conduct their regular monthly business meeting on Thursday, June 16, at 6 p.m., streamed live on our YouTube channel.  Public commentary may be submitted to: [email protected]

Juneteenth Closure

GPL will be closed Sunday, June 19 in observance of the Juneteenth holiday.

— Luanne Nicholson

sonwhich occurs Sat. June 18 through Tues. June 28.
