Over 30 charges for a Latham man in string of business break ins
COLONIE – A 37-year-old Latham man is facing a slew of charges from Colonie and State Police after Colonie officers caught him hiding nearby after allegedly attempting to break into three more businesses.
According to Colonie police Lt. Dan Belles, on Saturday, Jan. 13 at 10 p.m., officers responded to an alarm at 457 Troy Schenectady Road, and two others were activated by the time they arrived. A witness also said they saw a person fleeing the area. The officers set up a perimeter and launched the department’s drone to search the area. A K-9 Unit was also brought in from the Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Office to assist.
They captured Jesse Stockman, who was hiding in the grass on the side of Route 7 near Loudon Road, just after midnight.
Police charged Stockman with attempted burglary, a felony, and criminal mischief and possession of burglar’s tools, both misdemeanors.
He was arraigned and sent to the Albany County jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail, $7,500 bond or $30,000 partially secured bond.
The next morning, State Police responded to a business in Colonie for the reports of a past burglary. The investigation determined on Friday, Jan. 12, Stockman forcibly entered multiple offices inside the commercial building, causing damage to the property and stealing items from within.
On Monday, Jan. 15, Stockman made bail and was released from jail, but that did not last long.
Troopers arrested Stockman at his home the next morning and charged him with additional counts of burglary and criminal mischief, and 10 counts of grand larceny – credit card, a felony for the incidents in their investigation.
He was arraigned in Colonie Town Court on Monday, where the judge revoked bail and sent him back to the Albany County jail.
Colonie detectives then linked Stockman to nine more business burglaries and arrested him on those incidents on Wednesday, Jan. 17 at the Albany County jail. The business locations were near New Loudon Road and on Central Avenue. He was charged with multiple counts of attempted burglary, burglary, grand larceny and criminal mischief – third degree, all felonies, and petit larceny, criminal mischief- fourth degree, and possession of burglar’s tools, all misdemeanors.
He was arraigned again in Colonie and sent back to the Albany County jail without bail.
The investigation is ongoing and police said they are looking into if Stockman is linked to other break ins.
Two Warrants
COLONIE – State Police took Joshua Amash, 36, of Loudonville, into custody on Wednesday, Jan. 3 on two warrants for failing to appear in court in December.
He was processed and released with an appearance ticket for Colonie Town Court on January 17.
Warrant
COLONIE – A 58-year-old Albany woman was brought from the Albany County jail on Wednesday, Jan. 3 on an outstanding warrant from the Town of Colonie.
Avis Williamson, was processed on the warrant for not showing up to court in May 2022. She was arraigned.
Unlawful survailance
COLONIE – Joseph Munafo, 60, of Schenectady, turned himself into Colonie police on Wednesday, Jan. 3 stemming from an October 16 incident at the Post Office on Karner Road. He was charged with unlawful surveillance, a felony and given an appearance ticket for January 24.
DWI on Central Avenue
COLONIE – On Friday, Jan. 5 at approximately 12:36 a.m., Colonie police stopped a vehicle for speeding near the intersection of Central Avenue and Lanci Lane.
Upon interviewing the driver, a 22-year-old man from Ballston Spa, officers observed that the man exhibited signs of impairment.
He was given and failed field sobriety tests and tested positive for breath alcohol on a pre-screening device and taken into custody.
He was charged with DWI, a misdemeanor, and ticketed for speeding, failure to stay in a single lane and drinking alcohol in a motor vehicle.
The man was released with an appearance ticket for January 8.
Hate crime and two additional burglaries
LATHAM – A homeless man was arrested by Colonie police on Friday, Jan. 5 at 2 p.m. as he was released from the Albany County jail for a hate crime that took place on Sunday, Dec. 24 for specifically targeting an elderly shopper at the Price Chopper on New Loudon Road. Two days later he was charged in two additional attempted burglaries where he tried to enter occupied homes in Latham on January 2.
Jason Nobile, 47, was charged with grand larceny – hate crime and identity theft, both felonies for the Price Chopper incident where he allegedly stole a woman’s purse.
The two burglaries took place on Ridgecrest Avenue and Overidge Road and both attempts were caught on video. In those cases he was charged with two counts of attempted burglary, a felony.
He was arraigned and sent back to the Albany County jail by Colonie Judge David Green.
DWI on Route 9
LOUDONVILLE – Colonie police stopped a vehicle on Route 9 near Newton Plaza on Saturday, Jan. 6 at 2:05 a.m. when officers observed the car not staying in its lane.
Upon interviewing the driver, a 59-year-old Dover Plains man, officers observed that he had slurred speech, watery eyes and had an odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from his breath. According to reports, the man did admit to drinking alcohol and had difficulty answering questions.
He was given and failed field sobriety tests and tested positive for breath alcohol on a pre-screening device.
The man was charged with DWI, a misdemeanor, and ticketed for failure to stay in a single lane and operating a motor vehicle without insurance.
He was released with an appearance ticket for Colonie Town Court on January 8.
Aggravated criminal contempt and assault
COLONIE – A Troy man was arrested by Colonie police on Saturday, Jan. 6 at 8:13 p.m. at the Five Guys restaurant on Central avenue after a domestic incident.
Kareem Moody, 34, was charged with aggravated criminal contempt, a felony, for violating an order of protection, and assault with intent to cause physical injury, a misdemeanor.
He was processed and arraigned the next morning by Colonie Town Judge David Green.
Burglary, larceny and warrants
COLONIE – Colonie police responded to Target on Central Avenue for the report of a larceny on Sunday, Jan. 7 at 6:57 p.m. and found that an Albany woman had stolen from the store before and had outstanding warrants from other police agencies.
According to reports, loss prevention employees observed Leah Detroye, 26, remove merchandise from its packaging and conceal it to leave the store. Detroye had been trespassed from the location for prior thefts.
After an investigation, officers confirmed her identity and found that she had outstanding warrants from other agencies as well.
She was charged with burglary, a felony, and petit larceny, a misdemeanor, for this incident. Because she had other warrants, police contacted Judge David Green and he advised police to release Detroye with an appearance ticket and transported to Rensselaer County on other charges. She is scheduled to appear at Colonie Town Court on January 24.
Two warrant for robbery and grand larceny
NISKAYUNA – A Troy woman was arrested by Niskayuna police on two active arrest warrants from Colonie on Sunday, Jan. 7 for one incident that took place in November 2020 at the American Eagle store at Colonie Center and the other on January 7 at Macy’s.
Jessiah Terrell, 23, was charged with robbery, a felony, for the American Eagle incident and grand larceny for the Macy’s incident. She was released on an appearance ticket for January 22.
Warrant
COLONIE – Colonie police responded to a call for service on Monday, Jan. 8 at 3:21 a.m. at the Baymont by Wyndham hotel on Airport Boulevard and found a Colonie woman was wanted.
Melanie Ford, 41, who is homeless, was wanted by Schenectady police. She was processed and transported to meet officers from that department.
Burglary at Target
COLONIE – On Monday, Jan. 8 at 12:07 p.m., Colonie police responded to the Target on Central Avenue for a woman observed taking items.
When police arrived, they located Leah Cassillo, 44, of Rotterdam, and took her into custody. She had already been trespassed from the store for prior incidents. Cassillo was charged with burglary, a felony, and petit larceny, a misdemeanor, and trespass, a violation.
She was processed and arraigned.
Failure to appear
COLONIE – Nathaniel Picardi, 32, of Athens was brought over from the Albany County jail on Monday, Jan. 8 to face charges he did not show up for court.
He was processed and arraigned by Colonie Judge Andrew Sommers for not showing up for court in November.
No lights, no license, no insurance, but had warrant
COLONIE – Colonie police stopped a vehicle near the intersection of Central and Holland Avenues on Monday, Jan. 8 at approximately 9:19 p.m. for not having its lights on.
Officers found that the driver, Aijeleth Farmer, 27, of Albany, had a suspended license and the vehicle did not have insurance. He also had an outstanding warrant from State Police in Cobleskill.
He was charged with unlicensed operation, a misdemeanor, and ticketed for no insurance and operating with inadequate lights.
He was given an appearance ticket and turned over to State Police.
Identity theft and multiple warrants
COLONIE – A 44-year-old Colonie man was involved in a landlord and tenant dispute in June and was arrested by Colonie police on Tuesday, Jan. 9.
Christopher Sumner was charged with identity theft, a felony, and during a check, he had multiple outstanding warrants.
He was sent to the Albany County jail as a pre-arraignment detainee.
Identity theft and forged instrument
COHOES – Cohoes police arrested Stephen Davin, 48, of Cohoes on Thursday, Jan. 11 on an arrest warrant from the Town of Colonie.
He was charged with possession of a forged instrument and identity theft, both felonies, and petit larceny, a misdemeanor, for an incident at Latham Farms in December.
Davin was arraigned by Colonie Judge Andrew Sommers.
