COLONIE — The Police Department is hosting an informational open house for anyone interested in employment as a police officer, at the Public Safety Center, 312 Wolf Road in Latham, from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 17, 2018.

An Open Competitive Civil Service Examination for the position of police officer will be given on Sept. 15, by the town Civil Service Office. The last filing date to file an application with the Civil Service Office is Friday, July 26.
A police officer is responsible for the enforcement of laws and ordinances and protection of lives and property in a designated area on an assigned shift.
The starting salary is $56,018 which increases to $83,402 after six years.
Minimum qualifications for this exam include:
• Satisfactory completion of 60 college credit hours
• Candidates must be at least 19 years old, but no older than 34 years of age prior to the examination date.
• Preference will be given to those applicants who are residents of the Town of Colonie for a minimum of four months prior to the examination date.
Applications are being accepted at this time and may be obtained at the Town of Colonie Civil Service Office located in Memorial Town Hall on Route 9 in Newtonville or at their website, www.colonie.org/civilservice.
