A Colonie teen was arrested for making up a story about how he crashed a 2018 Ford Raptor.
According to Sheriff Craig Apple, 17-year-old Nicholas Pfaff told police he was run off Cole Hill Road in Berne by two other vehicles that were drag racing.
But, after an investigation, it was determined Pfaff was driving the truck faster than 100 mph when he lost control and struck a utility pole. There were no other vehicles involved.
Furthermore, he was operating the truck without the owner’s consent.
He is charged with the misdemeanors of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, criminal mischief, falsely reporting an incident and reckless driving.
He was also issued traffic citations for speeding and failure to keep right.
The State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit and the Computer Crime Unit assisted in the investigation.
