COLONIE – Town police and the Drug Enforcement Administration will collect expired, unwanted or unused over the counter drugs on Saturday, April 29 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Any resident who wants to get rid of the pharmaceutical controlled substances can bring them to the main courtroom in the Public Safety Center located at 312 Wolf Road. They will then be destroyed.
National Take Back Day not only safely disposes of potentially dangerous drugs often found in medicine cabinets but is also designed to bring attention to the issue of pharmaceutical controlled substance abuse.
There are certain restrictions: Intra-venous solutions, injectable drugs and syringes will not be accepted to to the potential hazard posed by blood-borne pathogens. Hazardous waste such as mercury (like what is found in old thermometers) will not be accepted.
Officials will also not accept illegal substances like marijuana or methamphetamines.
