DELMAR — For the first time in the cosmetic company’s 55-year history, CoverGirl is featuring a young man for the face of its products.
And, he’s one of our own.
James Charles, 17, a Bethlehem Central High School student whose cosmetology talents have lent him notoriety on social media, announced to the world he is the newest spokesperson for the popular cosmetic company.
“I am so beyond excited and overwhelmed and happy and astonished and of course, SHOOK, to announce that I am the newest face of @covergirl,” stated Charles on his Instagram account Tuesday, Oct. 11. “First ever male ambassador for the brand and I am so honored and excited to be working with such an iconic brand.”
The teen has spent the past year posting self-portraits featuring his make-up work online. His Instagram account, @jcharlesbeauty, has since garnered more than 500 thousand followers.
“I started my Instagram one year ago to inspire others and as an artistic outlet to challenge myself creatively,” stated Charles. “I truly hope that this shows that anyone and everyone can wear makeup and can do anything if you work hard. I can’t wait to share with you all what we have in store, but trust me when I say it’s gonna be real good.”
News of CoverGirl’s announcement lit up like fireworks throughout the day since pop singer Katy Perry posted a picture of herself with Charles to break the announcement.
“Just wrapped another great@COVERGIRL shoot. Honored to have the pleasure to announce the very first COVERBOY, James Charles!” stated Perry, who was named Covergirl in 2013.
