ALBANY — Bethlehem’s Dawson Homer and Colonie’s Jeremiah House each won their individual events to qualify for the New York State Public High School Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Section 2 qualifier Monday. Feb. 15, at the University at Albany.
Homer took first place in the boys 1,600-meter race with a time of 4:31.40, while House collected a victory in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 7.76 seconds in the in finals.
Colonie is also sending its boys 1,600-meter relay team to states after it won the Sectional meet with a time of 3:37.19. Bethlehem was second with a time of 3:37.73.
Guilderland’s Xaviir Berry and Shaker’s Ronel Forde added victories in field events. Berry finished first in the high jump by clearing the bar at 6 feet, 4 inches, while Forde claimed the triple jump title with a distance of 47 feet, 3 inches.
Colonie’s Jake Johnson and Shaker’s Paul Nichols placed second in their races to also earn automatic berths to the state meet. Johnson was second in the 1,000-meter race with a time of 2:38.82, while Nichols finished second in the 3,200-meter race with a time of 9:49.41.
On the girls’ side, Colonie’s Amanda Chambers took first place in the 1,500-meter race with a time of 4:47.35. Bethlehem’s Tedi DeMaria was second in the pole vault (12 feet, 0 inches) and the triple jump (34 feet, 10 inches), while teammate Julia Nugent finished second in the 55-meter hurdles (9.06 seconds).
Colonie’s Marilyn O’Brien (600-meter race, 1:41.24) and Lydia Frick (1,500-meter race walk, 8:30.28) finished second at the state meet qualifier, as did the Lady Raiders’ 1,600-meter relay team (4:13.33).
